Our pottery is unique because it is “high fired” to 2300 degrees in a recycled vegetable oil burning kiln. All of the glazes are “food safe” and dishwasher safe. Porcelain at this temperature is beautifully translucent when thin. Through this multifaceted process we are able get remarkable surfaces and glaze colors. Due to the atmospheric conditions in the kiln some areas produce different colors from the very same glaze, therefore we must use our knowledge and experience in the loading and firing of the kiln in addition to the creation of the piece!

Kilns are being fired at the studio often so if you live on St John all or part of the time, stop to see the latest works! The Gallery door is on the way into Pickles Deli, so when you’re waiting for your sandwich... stop a moment to browse! Everything here is totally hand made. You can often catch the artists at work “throwing pots”, glazing or firing. If you are fortunate enough to stop by on a “Kiln Opening” day it is a little like Christmas we unpack the carefully stacked kiln shelves to reveal the treasures! The potters from our Classes and Open Studio eagerly await the results too: the clay has been mysteriously transformed from earth to ceramic by our skills and the heat of the fire!
